Even though San Francisco is second only to Manhattan in publishing might, we didn’t have a book festival to call our own until last year. (We have LitQuake, but that’s more like a pub crawl than a daytime festival.) This year’s second Bay Area Book Festival hit it out of the park.

The Lacuna of books…an art piece surrounding a fountain comprised of 50,000 books free for the taking! Dubbed the “world’s most public library” by San Francisco Magazine, it was quite a sight!

The San Francisco Writers Conference booth on Writer’s Row (where you could see the amazing spark plug of so many literary organizations in SF, Kate Farrell, as well as moi). We answered the questions of lots of aspiring writers.

Glorious authors such as you’ve never heard before all in the same place–Sherman Alexie, Daniel Clowes, Tim Federle, Susan Griffin, Lemony Snicket/Daniel Handler, Zareen Jaffery, Joyce Maynard, Lauren Myracle, Bich Minh Nguyen, Alyson Noel, Veronica Rossi, Richard Russo, Saul Williams, Jacqueline Winspear, Gene Luen Yang–plus nearly 150 others, delighted festival-goers over two days in the hot sun and cool shade.

If you didn’t go this year, make sure to mark your calendar for next June. It was magical fun with tons of great networking and learning opportunities, smack dab in the heart of Berkeley, where a great restaurant is only steps away. (Next year’s BABF is June 3-4, 2017!)
