Emily Keyes has signed middle grade author Daka Hermon! Please welcome Daka!

Can you tell us a little about yourself?
This question is my kryptonite. I always feel like I’m way less interesting than everyone else, but here goes… I think it would be fun to live in a world where the Tardis is real, my home is Willy Wonka’s Chocolate Factory, Marvel superheroes are my roommates and Judy Judy is president.

I have a degree in English Literature/Creative Writing from Agnes Scott College. I worked for Nickelodeon as a Writer’s Assistant and Script Coordinator, and wrote freelance scripts for “The Kenan and Kel Show” and “All That”. For the last eleven years, I’ve worked in Standards & Practices at Disney.

What is your book about?
My middle grade novel combines the best and worst of my childhood memories with the fantasy adventures I love to read. In Hide and Seeker, kids suddenly begin to disappear after playing the game Hide and Seek. As they investigate, they stumble on a horrifying secret–a monster, the Seeker, kidnaps and imprison kids who break the rules of the game.

You worked with another one of my authors, Will Taylor. How did that happen?
I love Will Taylor!! He’d probably deny it, but I’m almost positive he’s a superhero with powers to encourage, empower and enrich the lives of everyone he comes in contact with.

I was paired-up with Will during the pre-DVpit Twitter contest. He read over my pitch, query and the first five pages of my novel several times and gave awesome feedback and notes. I later found out that he mentioned me and my novel to his agent and editor after only reading the first five pages!! I’m still shocked and amazed by his generosity and support. During the actually contest, he repeatedly boosted my tweets and gave me shout-outs, which resulted in several agent requests.

Will is a Wonder and an amazing talent and person, who continues to provide support and guidance each and every time I reach out to him. Happy Ending Alert… Now we share the same fabulous agent!

That is a happy ending! What are your fave middle grade titles?
Hoodoo, Chronicle of Narnia, The Jumbies, Maniac Magee, Schwa Was Here, Savvy, Rookie of the Year, Serafina and the Black Cloak

Anything else you want our readers to know about you?
I celebrate my birthday every day, sometimes twice a day. I was born on 11/20. Any time I catch 11:20 on a clock I stop and have a dance party until the time changes. As you can imagine, depending on my location, this can get very interesting.
