Melanie Fried of Graydon House bought world rights to ONE NIGHT GONE by Tara Laskowski, whose short story collection, BYSTANDERS, won the 2016 Balcones Fiction Prize and was hailed by Jennifer Egan as “a bold, riveting mash-up of Hitchcockian suspense and campfire-tale chills.” The book is a debut atmospheric upmarket suspense novel about a recent divorcee hired to house-sit in a wealthy beach town during the off-season who becomes drawn into the mysterious disappearance of a teenage girl there decades before—but someone in town is determined to keep the past buried. This is Tara’s debut novel. The deal was brokered by Michelle Richter.
