Carlisle Webber

About Carlisle Webber

Carlisle refused to major in English in college because she didn’t think there was anything fun to read on the required lists. No Stephen King? No R. L. Stine? No thanks. After college, she earned a Master of Library and Information Sciences from the University of Pittsburgh School of Information Sciences and worked as a public librarian specializing in services to teens and adults. When she decided to move to the business side of publishing, she attended the Columbia Publishing Course with the aim of becoming a literary agent. She also holds a Professional Certificate in Editing from UC Berkeley. Her agenting philosophy is that she represents authors, not books, and she aims to work with writers who have a vision for a long, creative career. Though her favorite books are high concept, she is looking for a wide variety of plots and character types.

Diverse authors are encouraged to submit their work. Within the age groups and genres she represents, Carlisle is especially interested in stories about people of color; who are LGBTQIA+; who have visible and/or invisible disabilities or illnesses; who are economically disadvantaged; or who are members of religious minorities.

Carlisle loves a good scare, fast-paced action, relatable emotions, and fascinating characters, so if your book reads like something Shonda Rhimes or FX would turn into a TV show, or that Reese Witherspoon would pick for her book club, she could be the agent for you.

Adult Fiction

Carlisle seeks commercial, contemporary books full of twists, turns, OMG moments, and voices that stay with her long after the last page. She loves to see ordinary people in extraordinary situations and books that tackle hot topics in fresh, interesting ways. She would love to find authors like Michael Connelly, Gillian Flynn, Robyn Harding, Casey McQuiston, Alex North, or Riley Sager, and books like WHISPER NETWORK by Chandler Baker, THE GIRLS ARE ALL SO NICE HERE by Laurie Elizabeth Flynn, PEOPLE LIKE HER by Ellery Lloyd, or SUCH A FUN AGE by Kiley Reid.

Children’s Fiction

Carlisle is looking for authentic voices that capture the both the delight and pain of self-discovery and growing up. She is open to a wide range of genres and styles for this age group, from literary to commercial and everything in between. The most important thing to her when she reads a novel for children or young adults is the believability of the voice. Some of her favorite books in MG and YA include THE NIGHT GARDENER by Jonathan Auxier, THREE DARK CROWNS by Kendare Blake, THE DREADFUL TALE OF PROSPER REDDING by Alexandra Bracken, THE GRACE YEAR by Kim Liggett, INEXCUSABLE by Chris Lynch, and DIVERGENT by Veronica Roth. For authors, she would love to find the next Benjamin Alire-Saénz, Laurie Halse Anderson, Lamar Giles, E. Lockhart, Amy Lukavics, or Adam Silvera.
