We’ve had a great response to Michelle Richter’s Short Fuse on Query Letters. Tomorrow, October 21, we’ll be releasing another one! This will be The Short Fuse Guide to Working with Book Bloggers by our own Jen Karsbaek.
With newspapers and magazines cutting coverage of books, getting reviews from book bloggers is more and more important for authors. Yet some authors make mistakes when interacting with bloggers–the internet makes it too easy to respond and/or become too aggressive.
I think it’s important to remember that book bloggers do read books because they enjoy it. It’s not a job. They are a volunteer army, dedicated to keeping people reading.
So here’s some things you can do to help make life easier for bloggers:
Read Submission Guidelines. Most book blogs have a submission guideline easily accessible on their main page. Always read these. If your book is not something they are looking for, please move on. You will save everyone some time.
Be professional. Even though I say book bloggers are volunteers, that doesn’t mean you are! This is your job, so act accordingly.
Read Book Blogs. This might seem like a no-brainer, but book blogs are amazing resources that will help you find your next read. They can also help you find comp titles for your project, and keep you abreast of trends that are going on in your genre.
For more tips, check out Jen’s Short Fuse when it releases tomorrow. In the comments, be sure to mention your favorite book blogs! Let’s show the bloggers some love!
