Andrew Arnold at HarperAlley has acquired North American rights to I AM ONE OF YOU, a YA graphic adaptation of Jonathan Conyers’ memoir, I WASN’T SUPPOSED TO BE HERE. Conyers is joined by the scriptwriter of HARRIET TUBMAN: CONDUCTOR ON THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD, Joseph P. Illidge, and Marvel illustrator, Daniel A. Stevens. The book follows Jonathan through his rough upbringing in New York City as he finds his voice and sense of self-worth under the tutelage of his debate teacher, who is struggling to do the same as a newly out trans man. Look for it in winter 2028.
Shout out to editor Josh Sippie and agents Johanna Castillo and Jennifer Azantian. The early pages look amazing, and we can’t wait until everyone else gets to read it.
