We’re thrilled to announce that Asia Murphy has signed as a client of Ernie Chiara at Fuse Literary. An ecologist, Asia studies carnivores and native bees using pictures gathered through illicit means (i.e., trail cameras and iNat data). She believes in weaselform supremacy. If she isn’t in some type of forest covered in DEET, animal piss, and ground up skunk glands, she’s in a café wearing vivid lipstick, forcing her laptop to juggle running statistical models and twitter scrolling. Occasionally she writes fiction to better know herself.
Her adult science fantasy, RED SUN, follows a dying witch-hunter and a literally damned witch who must overcome religious conviction, a vengeance-seeking gang leader, an eldritch rainforest, and a thrice-killed priest to awaken a feral fire god and save the land from an alien bioweapon.
On her inspiration for writing RED SUN during the last two years of a difficult doctoral program, Asia shares, “I’d been working on “a” story for a decade with nothing to show and got tired of it. I decided I wanted to finish something, and this is what was finished. Why this was the story that was finished probably had to do with my interest in intimacy as violence, disturbance as vital to life, and returning land back to indigenous people so fire-adapted ecosystems can heal from centuries of awful European stewardship. This is a story in which the land burns. Whether it’s good for everyone else doesn’t really signify.”
